Paul's Biography

Paul Field has been working as a professional composer, producer and musician for more than 30 years. He has received an Ivor Novello Award from the British Academy of Songwriters and Composers and a Dove Award (and two nominations) from GMA in Nashville. His songs have been recorded by many artists around the world and his production and arrangement credits range from Country and Gospel through Classical to Rock & Pop. He's also written music for TV, Film, Theatre and Advertising.

Paul's song 'Testify to love' has three times been a hit in the US, first a #1 for Avalon and then for Wynnona on the Double Platinum CD 'Touched by an Angel' (soundtrack to the TV show) which made #3 in the Billboard Chart. The song has also recently been re-released as the title track on Avalon's Platinum 'Greatest Hits' CD.

Cliff Richard has recorded many of Paul's songs over the years including 'All that matters' on the compilation 'Tribute' album for Diana, Princess of Wales, 'Thief in the Night' on four different albums and the controversial 1.3 million selling single ' The Millennium Prayer'.

In the last few years Paul's also had songs recorded in the US by Grammy Award winning artistes Rebecca St. James and Jaqui Velasquez as well as by Phil Keaggy, Point of Grace, Jennifer Stanley, Natalie Grant and Jennifer Knapp. Paul works frequently in Nashville together with other writers on a wide range of projects.

Paul has also written six musicals, 'Daybreak', 'Visions', 'Breaking Bread', 'Burning Questions', 'Hopes and Dreams' and 'Here and Now' which have been widely performed in the UK and around the world. He also writes music for film, television and advertising (including British Rail, The Cabbage Patch Kids (USA), Astrofarm, Guiness, The European News Network, Australian TV and the Tokyo Motor Show)!

Over the years Paul has produced and arranged albums for many Artists, from heavy rock to children's songs for the under 5's! He's also provided backing vocals on countless recordings and live gigs, sharing stages with Cliff Richard, Rick Wakeman, Gloria Gaynor, Phil Everley, Paul Jones, Amy Grant, Lesley Ashe, David & Carrie Grant, Chris Rea, Andre Crouch, Jessy Dixon, Katy Meluah & the Archbishop of Canterbury, to name but a few. Back in the 70’s his group, Nutshell recorded 5 albums and travelled extensively for concerts, TV and radio performances in the UK, Europe and America. Between 79 and 81 they toured with Cliff Richard as backing singers and support act.

Paul travelled to India in 2001 and again in 2002 with Garth Hewitt and co-wrote and produced a CD for Christian Aid, "The Dalit Drum", using many live recordings of Dalit Drummers, in support of the Dalit's or 'Untouchables'. Often referred to as 'India's Hidden Apartheid', the Dalit's represent over 200 million people at the bottom of the caste system who are denied basic human rights.

One of Paul's children's songs "Surrounded by his love" (from the "Make a joyful noise" CD) was featured as part of the Queens Christmas Message on Christmas day 2004.

Recent projects include writing and production for Jonathan Veira, songs for a Dutch film, 2 albums of children's songs, Backing vocals for Brian Houston, productions for Garth Hewitt, lyrics for a BBC project for school assemblies, production of "Beyond Belief" with Martin John Nicholls for Christian Aid and a solo album "Without the song and dance".

His main focus for the last eighteen months has been ‘Cargo’ a project based on the
abolition of the slave trade which also aims to raise awareness of the extent of
contemporary slavery. The ‘Cargo’ project works alongside Anti Slavery International,
Compassion, Stop the Traffik & the UK Human Trafficking centre. Paul has been touring with ‘Cargo’ throughout 2007 together with Coco Mbassi, Mike Haughton, Sadie Chamberlain & Dan Wheeler.

Paul continues to enjoy performing solo for informal 'un-plugged' songwriter evenings. He also runs workshops on songwriting, performing and production.

Paul lives in London with his wife Ruth and has two sons, Joel and Jamie.
